先日、寄木でアクセサリーを作る作家のライトミルさんの個展へ行ってきました。
１〜２時間ほど話したのですが、制作には「自由な精神」が不可欠と、改めて感じています。何を許して何を制御するかも作家の自由で、毎回決定や判断をしながら、どこかでその決定や判断を曖昧にさせるというか、考える余白を残しておくというか、そんな部分も必要な気がしています。（かなり抽象的な話ですみません）
言ってしまえば、「途中っぽく」てもいいんです、そこに作家自身の哲学さえあれば。
「完成させる」ことはとても重要ではあるのですが、個人の力量はたかが知れていて、
あえてやり切らないことで、無意識を残すというか、（ちょっとシュルレアリスムにも遠くない感覚かもしれませんが）そんなことを最近考えています。
だからと言って、作品全てが未完成でいいというわけでもなく（笑）、でも、個人的には未完成しか描かない画家がいたら見てみたいです（自分ではそれはやらないけれど）。
ほんと、ただの独り言なんですけど、そんなことを、ぼーっと考えていて、
きっと、そのぼーっと考えていることが、今後、きちんとした言語に表せそうな気もしています。
The other day, I went to a solo exhibition by Lightmill, a designer who makes accessories with parquet. I talked with him for an hour or two, and I feel once again that a "free spirit" is indispensable for production. It is up to the artist to deside what to allow and what to control, and while making decisions and judgments each time, it is necessary to obscure those decisions and judgments somewhere, or to leave a margin for thinking. I feel like it. (Sorry for being a pretty abstract story)
In other words, it's okay to be "on the way", as long as there is the artist's own philosophy. "Complete" is very important, but the individual's ability is known. I've been thinking about it lately, rather than leaving it unconscious by not doing it all (although it may be a bit not far from Surrealism). That doesn't mean that all the works are unfinished, but I personally would like to see if there is a painter who only draws unfinished works (though I wouldn't do that myself).
It's just a soliloquy, but I was thinking about that kind of thing. I'm sure that what I'm thinking about can be expressed in a proper language in the future.
